Abstract

The soil properties significant for the cultivation of selected cultivars of black poplars were studied in the inundation of the river Rasina. The study soils in the river Rasina inundation are classified as fluvisol type, within the undeveloped class in the hydromorphic order, distinguished by a number of layers of different thickness and textural composition, with a low percentage of organic matter. The prevailing fraction is coarse sand, which together with the parent rock gravel, results in the unfavourable water regime in the soil. The physiologically active profile depth of the study soils is 60 to 70 cm, which is a sufficient depth for the development of the root system of some selected black poplar cultivars.
