The properties of dystric brown soil in the forest cultures of Austrian and Scots pine within forest management area “Usorsko-ukrinsko”

Abstract

The paper presents the results of pedological research conducted in the forest cultures of Austrian and Scots pine in three forest management units in the forest management area "Usorsko-ukrinsko". Research was carried out in forest management unit (FMU) "Mala Usora", compartments 86 and 89, FMU "Gornja Velika Usora", compartment 224 and FMU "Donja Velika Usora", departments 213 and 12. In each departments, pedological profile of the soil was opened, with a detailed study of the external and internal morphology, the selection of genetic horizons and the taking of soil samples for the study of physical and chemical properties in the laboratory. In compartments 86, 89 and 213 dystric brown soil of to the subtype: typical, variety: on sandstones and cherts, forms: shallow and medium deep in compartment 12 the subtype is: ilimerized, variety: on sandstones and cherts, form: medium deep and in compartment 214-1 of the subtype: pseudogley, variety: on sandstones and cherts, form: medium deep. The depths of the analyzed profiles range from 39 to 62 cm, while the chemical properties indicate a certain production limitation of dystric cambisol in this area. The reaction of the soil solution in H2O ranges from extremely (4.42) to strongly acidic (5.32). The analyzed soil according to the content of easily accessible phosphorus is poor, with values that do not exceed 1.26 mg/100g. The aim of the research in this work is to characterize the properties of the dystric brown soil in different spatial and ecological conditions, so that future plans when establishing forest cultures would put special emphasis on the soil properties before selecting species for specific areas.
