Characteristics of Soils in Novi Sad Parks and Their Heavy Metal Load

Abstract
The main characteristics of soil in four parks in Novi Sad are presented. Due to the high influence of the anthropogenic factor, the soils in Novi Sad parks are considerably changed in comparison to the natural soils, so they are determined as deposol. The main physical characteristics of the determined soils, such as textural class and water and air characteristics are favourable. Chemical characteristics indicate a neutral to weak alkaline reaction of the soil solution, as well as the poor supply with humus, and the elevated content of carbonates in the soil. Because of the high influence of the anthropogenic factor high quantity of heavy metals is determined in the soil (lead, cadmium, nickel). Comparison for cobalt and manganese was possible only for a few cities. The content of cobalt was higher related to both of the examined cities for which the data was available.
