Abstract

White willow is one of the key tree species in biomass production and phytoremediation projects. One of the most important advantages of white willows is their ability to vegetative propagate by stem hardwood cuttings. In order to examine the variability of characteristics of cutting rooting in 11 genotypes of white willow (Salix alba L.) in field conditions, on sandy-loamy fluvisol. After six weeks the variability of following characteristics was examined: number of the first-order roots on the basal cut of the cutting (BK0), on the part from basal cut to the 5th cm of cutting (BK05), from 5th to 10th cm (BK510), from 10th up to the top of the cutting (BK1020), on the basal five cm of the cutting (BK5 = BK0 + BK05) and total number of roots (UBK). Also, the variability of the participation of number of roots on mentioned parts of cutting in the total number of roots was examined (BK0P, BK05P, BK510P, BK1020P, BK5P, respectively).
