Abstract

Studies were conducted in the white willow stands (Salix alba L.) established at a planting distance of 4.25 × 4.25 m on fluvisol, var. double-layer (raked humoglay on loess- alluvium) and humogley (humogley on loess-alluvium) with naturally occuring oak and ash communities (Fraxineto-Quercetum roboris Jov. et Tom. 1979) in lower Srem. Elements of tree (hL = 20-21 m; dg = 22-23 cm) and stand (G = 18-19 m2·ha-1; V = 180-197 m3·ha-1, Iv = 6.16-6.24 m3·ha-1·ann-1) growth determined after 29-32 years of development revealed a modest productivity. Numeric and biology classes of trees in a stand pointed out to the process of tree differentiation, satisfactory vitality and health condition, and the increments of tree diameter varied greatly depending on vegetation period. It can be concluded that in these habitats the choice of white willow to serve as a preculture to natural pedunculate oak and narrow-leaved ash community, with partly satisfied need for wood cellulose was justified.
