INSTRUCTIONS FOR REVIEWERS
The Editorial board of the POPLAR scientific journal strives to ensure the high quality of the scientific papers it publishes. The reviewers' participation in this process is of great importance, and we therefore greatly appreciate their work.
DEADLINE FOR SENDING THE REVIEW
Unless indicated otherwise in the invitation to review the manuscript, the deadline for sending the review is 30 days from the day of receiving the paper, in the appropriate form that the reviewer receives from the Editor.
ETHICAL RULES
Reviewing is anonymous in both directions. Reviewers should inform the Editor if there is a conflict of interest when it comes to reviewing a specific paper. Reviewers should inform the Editor if they notice any violation of the ethical and scientific code in the paper. Each manuscript shall be kept confidential, and information about it may not be given, unless it has been approved by the Editor-in-Chief, in order to obtain an objective evaluation of the manuscript. The unpublished material presented in the manuscript must not be used prior to the publication of the manuscript. Authors who solely submit a manuscript for publication in the POPLAR scientific journal are expected to be reviewers on other occasions, if the Editorial Board asks them to do so.
EVALUATION OF PAPERS
When evaluating the paper, the reviewer assesses whether the paper is an original study, whether it does thematically and content wisely correspond to the scope of the journal, whether it is based on relevant scientific knowledge from the given field and whether it contains all the necessary elements provided in Authors guidelines: title, abstract, key words, main text of the paper, summary and references. The reviewer suggests the categorization of the work:
- original research articles,
- review articles,
- preliminary reports,
- professional papers.
Original scientific article represents the first publication of the results of an original research in such manner that the research can be repeated, and the established facts verified. As such, it should necessarily contain: the scientific context of the problem with reference to the relevant results of previous research and relevant literature, corpus, research methods and objectives, and after analyzing the researched problem, it should clearly present the results in the conclusion. In the review, it is necessary to be stated if any of these elements are missing in the work.
A review article provides a complete and critical presentation of a particular scientific issue in matter and relevant literature, a novel synthesis of scientific information, points out the similarities, differences and highlighting the gaps in the existing literature and should also contain the author's theoretically based opinion.
A preliminary report (short scientific contribution) is an original scientific article of a full format, but of a smaller scope or preliminary character, which briefly summarizes the results of a completed original research work or a work that is still in progress.
A professional paper contains useful contributions from a given area of research whose issues are not related to original research, that is, it provides a presentation of what is already known, with an emphasis on the usefulness of the results of original research and the dissemination of knowledge, and the complexity of the text is adapted to the needs of users and readers of the journal.
The reviewer proposes to the Editorial Board:
- to accept the manuscript without changes,
- to accept the manuscript with the condition that parts of the work are shortened, reworked or omitted,
- that the manuscript is not accepted.
In the case of recommending revision of the manuscript, the reviewer should state:
- changes that must be made in order for the manuscript to be published,
- changes that are recommended, but not necessary.
In case when it is proposed that the manuscript is not accepted for publication, a concise explanation must be given. Reviewers are not expected to do proofreading and proofreading of the manuscript, but it is recommended to indicate if the manuscript needs to be proofread.
