Abstract

During the building of dike and canal network in Vojvodina, the direction of the Tisa and Tamiš rivers has been changed, so the dikes and canals are going through other generic parts of riparian zone, and even outside of the riparian zone (less terraces). Because of this reason physical and chemical characteristics of the soil formed on previous soil (less terrace) along the new artificial riverbed in the basin of river Tamiš were analyzed. It was found that the content of the silt+clay fraction throughout the profile of fluvisol on fossil soil varied from 38.7 to 54.4%. Higher content was found in the fossil part of the profile. Textural class varied from sandy loam in the recent part of the profile to clay loam in the fossil part of the profile. Relating to chernozem in the nearby zones of agricultural production a "lighter" mechanical composition was found. The pH of the soil solution was around 7.50. The content of the humus was mostly low, while the content of carbonates was 12.96% in average. Relating to chernozem in the zone of agricultural production, soil on the fossil chernozem was changed in physical and chemical characteristics.
